SACE Stage 2 Physics — Motion 1.4

Muon Decay Experiment

A re-creation of the Frisch & Smith 1963 experiment. Detect cosmic-ray muons at the summit of Mt Washington, then again at sea level. Compare the survival rate with what classical physics predicts — the discrepancy is one of the cleanest experimental confirmations of special relativity.
